About Us

East Grinstead & District Athletic Club was formed in 1978 and has taken part in a variety of competitions since then. We are a friendly club where we all know each other and welcome all newcomers – everyone has a chance to sprint, throw a discus, jump as high or as far as we can, run on roads or run over cross-country.

Our athletes have won County Championships and over 100 athletes have represented Sussex in inter-county fixtures. In 2012, we had our first representative gain international honours for England. As well as organising our own training and coaching, we organise the annual East Grinstead and District Primary Schools’ Cross-Country Championships. This event is held in and around the East Court Playing Fields in early October. This is an exciting day for all those running, for their teachers and for their parents – and all the necessary arrangements are made by East Grinstead Athletic Club.

We run an Academy as an introduction to athletics for children in school years 4 and 5. We train and work towards a competition which takes place each year in early July. The aim is for all children aged 9 and over to take part in a Quad Kids competition. We then take a break for the summer and return in September and offer cross country training at East Court, building towards the East Grinstead Schools Cross Country races that take place in October. As the year 5 athletes move in to year 6, they will move up to join our Under 13’s squad.
From school year 6 through to adults, we provide training to athletes to prepare them for competitive athletics. We have coaches supporting and developing athletes in a range of athletics disciplines. Training is Tuesdays (March – September) and Thursdays (all year) for club members.
The club supports a range of teams covering a range of age groups and athletes are expected to compete and represent the club. Team managers are on hand to advise and assist athletes; most competitions will take place around Sussex. We encourage everyone to come and watch their sons and daughters competing in the various league matches.
