About Us

East Grinstead & District Athletic Club was formed in 1978 and has taken part in a variety of competitions since then. We are a friendly club where we all know each other and welcome all newcomers – everyone has a chance to sprint, throw a discus, jump as high or as far as we can, run on roads or run over cross-country.

Our athletes have won County Championships and over 100 athletes have represented Sussex in inter-county fixtures. In 2012, we had our first representative gain international honours for England. As well as organising our own training and coaching, we organise the annual East Grinstead and District Primary Schools’ Cross-Country Championships. This event is held in and around the East Court Playing Fields in early October. This is an exciting day for all those running, for their teachers and for their parents – and all the necessary arrangements are made by East Grinstead Athletic Club.

Academy

Our Academy is an introduction to athletics for children in school years 4 and 5. We train and work towards the Sussex Quadkids Competition which takes place at the K2 in Crawley. Quadkids encompasses all key aspects of athletics: endurance, speed, agility and strength. The events are: 75m sprint, howler throw, standing jump and 600m. We accept 40 children and hold a waiting list.

Competition

We compete in a number of age appropriate leagues athletes are expected to compete and represent the club. Team managers are on hand to advise and assist athletes; most competitions will take place around Sussex.

Training

From school year 6 through to adults, we provide training to athletes to prepare them for competitive athletics. We have coaches supporting and developing athletes in a range of athletics disciplines. Training is Tuesdays from 1830 to 1930 (March – September) and Thursdays 1830 to 1930 (all year) for club members. Please submit an enquiry before coming along and we’ll send you an invitation for a trial. From time to time, we may run a waiting list to maintain coach / athlete ratios.
