On the 2nd October, the club organised the annual primary schools cross country races in East Court. A damp, wet start to the day was ominous as a small band of helpers started constructing the course. As the rain fell, the course began to emerge. By late morning, with the rain easing and the threat of sunshine breaking through the clouds, the course was ready.
The first two races featured pupils from year 4 and a slightly shorter course compared to that run by years 5 & 6. Each course features That Hill (a nod to Parkrun fans there) and a finish on the lower playing fields. These races rely on volunteers giving up their time to help ensure they go as smoothly as possible; so a big thank you to the marshals around the course, the guide runners and the results team, plus the race organiser Belinda Sims, who will be handing over the responsibility of the organising to a new team for next year.
All of the results have been passed on to the schools this week so they can congratulate the athletes for all of their hard work in completing the races.
In addition to the individual races, we have a team competition. The lowest scoring team wins, with 1 point for first, 2 for second etc. Congratulations to Lingfield College Prep in the girls race and Ardingly in the boys race.
