The 2022 summer season gets started
Our first league match of the 2022 season took place on Sunday at Sutcliffe Park in Eltham in south east London. Our under 17 and under 20 athletes were part of Team Sussex along with athletes from Lewes and Eastbourne and we started the season with a number of PBs and with a new club record.
I’ll bring you news of those PBs when I get the full results but I can tell you more about the new club record. Up until 3 years ago none of our lady athletes – in any age group – had ever thrown the 1k discus more than 30 metres. But at the tail end of the 2019 season Rebekah Tyler – an under 17 at the time – had thrown the discus 30.07 metres. And on Sunday the same Rebekah Tyler – now an under 20 – threw the 1k discus 30.50 metres. Very well done to her and we look forward to more improvements as the summer progresses. I understand that she will be doing both the shot and discus for Brighton University in the British University Championships later in the summer.
A training reminder
A reminder that starting Tuesday April 26 our Tuesday evening training sessions will take place at Sackville School from 6.30 to 7.30. This will continue for the rest of the summer. Thursday evening sessions will continue at Imberhorne Upper School.
Under 13 match this coming Friday evening
Our youngest athletes – school years 6 and 7 – have their first match of the season this coming Friday April 29 at K2 in Crawley. The match starts at 6.30 and expects to finish by 8pm or shortly afterwards. For many of our athletes this will be their first experience of club athletics and we wish them well and hope they enjoy the evening.
If you are in year 6 or 7 and have not heard anything about the match then please contact Lester Medcalf.
