In order to offer athletes a safe, competitive opportunity where they could compete against others from the club, we ran our first club competition night. This could only happen with the help of parents and families, and we were delighted so many were available to help the event run smoothly. From sorting out lane draws and ensuring athletes remained behind the start line, to timekeepers and track judges compiling the results, we had six excellent races to get the evening underway.
With a briefing before the competition and coaches and officials on hand to help, it was clear that all those helping were as quick on the uptake as the athletes were in their races and the sprints were completed and athletes then moved on to the long jump.
In the long jump, all of our officials for the night moved swiftly into place for the competition. We had recorders, measures, spikers, spotters and rakers all working together to ensure the competition was as fun for those taking part as those helping.
On behalf of the club, we’d like to thank those that offered their time, energy and skills to make the evening successful and we hope to be able to run further club competitions for athletes to gain that valuable experience, allowing them to compete for the club in the various competitions we participate in.
