With a lack of officials available on the original night this match was scheduled (Friday 30th June), a lack of athletes from East Grinstead on the rescheduled night meant only a very small squad available to compete at Horsham. Despite the lack of numbers, those there did brilliantly representing the club.
For the boys, we saw Lukas Togwell set a new PB in the 75m, coming 2nd with a time of 10.7s and Matthew Wells making his debut as an U13 coming in 4th in the B race in 12.2s. Lukas was back on the track for the 150m, coming in 4th in a time of 22.3s and Matthew coming in 4th in 24.9s.
For the girls, we had Beth Mitchell running 11.6s in her 75m A string, finishing in 5th with a new personal best, and Holly Grange securing 3rd place in the B string in 11.7s, also a personal best. Beth then followed her performance with another personal best in the 150m, coming in 6th in a time of 24.0s. Holly, meanwhile, made her debut in the shot, finishing in 4th with a distance of 4.63m. A special mention also goes to Ariana Latella for her efforts on her debut in the discus – whilst the cage was her enemy on the evening, she did fantastically well having a go in an event she had barely practiced before.
With only one more match this season to go (Sunday 1st September at K2 in Crawley), it would be great to have as many of our U13 athletes as possible available so we can compete against the other clubs and challenge in the relays; for further details, please speak to Chris, or drop an email to Under13TeamManager@eastgrinsteadac.co.uk.
