On the eve of half term (24th May), our intrepid U13s had a trip to Worthing for an evening of athletics with their second match of the season. With some warm weather to enjoy compared to the last match, and a small squad available, there were still plenty of performances to enjoy.
The evening kicked off with the 75m which saw Lukas Togwell finish 2nd in a close race with a PB of 10.9s and on his first outing for the club, Leo Wibrew was 6th in the B string in a time of 13.0s. Next up was Harriet Walter in the girls 75m, finishing 4th in the A string with a new PB of 11.4s and Beth Mitchell finishing in 4th on her debut for the club in the B string with a time of 11.7s.
Back on the track in the 150m, Lukas again finished 2nd with a PB of 21.9s and Harriet picked up her 2nd PB of the night when finishing 4th in the same event with a time of 23.2s. Meanwhile, Beth stepped up to the 600m finishing in 5th with a time of 2:18.2s. Leo also took part in the long jump, finishing in 6th with a leap of 2.90m.
The evening was then rounded off with a mixed relay and a good, close exciting finish, after Beth led off and passed on to Leo. Harriet then blitzed the bend before Lukas brought the baton home with a strong finish.
The next match for the U13s takes place on Friday 28th June in Horsham – make sure you’ve got it in your diary!
