This Wednesday January 19 will see the above primary school cross-country championships taking place at East Court. While the event is organised by the schools we at the Athletics Club have played a big part in running it for a number of years – especially with the races having taken place on the East Court playing fields for the last few years. (I can’t remember when the races first took place here.)
In particular we will help with marking out the course in the morning (and then dismantling it all after the races). We can always use any spare pair of hands when getting the course ready in the morning – from 9.30 or so. And helping with the marshalling for the races themselves.
Athletes will be able to walk round the course before their races from about 12.30. The race for the year 5 and 6 girls will then start at 1.30 pm and the race for the year 5 and 6 boys will start at 2.00 pm – each race over the same course of about 2,000 metres. A number of our own younger East Grinstead club athletes will be representing the town against athletes from Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and the various village primary schools in Mid Sussex. And the better athletes from the 2 races will go on to represent Mid Sussex in the all Sussex races to be held on March 3 in Brighton.
