Due to the time taken for the results of the U15s second match of the season to be confirmed, they’ve already had their third match so this report combines both matches.
Back on 31st May at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton there was a small squad of athletes who competed well with some great support. The hurdles got our track events underway with close races for both George Brewer finishing 5th in the A string in a time of 16.4s and Cadan Mackenzie 4th in the B string in 17.1s.
Over in the field events, a very close long jump competition between Zofia Gryczewska (3.64m and 9th in the A string) and Zara Caccavone (3.63m and 6th in the B string) was taking place, Zara improving on her PB from the county championships by 1cm. Elsewhere on the field, Maribelle La Cock threw the javelin 12.80m to finish 8th in the A string at the same time as competing in the shot put (unfortunately at the other end of the stadium) where she extended her PB to 6.48m to finish 2nd in the B string. The A string saw Grace Bleach reach 6.73m in the shot put to finish 5th. For the boys, Nate Hope was competing in the high jump, finishing 6th with 1.25m.
Back on the track, Rowan Kirby ran a new PB in the 300m in a time of 41.8s and finished 7th. Next up on the track, we saw Eddie Rew run 14.5s in the 100m, finishing in 9th in the A string and George finishing in 8th in the B string in a time of 15.1s In the girls’ races, Zara got her second PB of the evening, running 14.3s in the 100m to finish 5th in the A string, and Zofia came in 7th in the B string in a time of 17.6s.
With the 800m underway (Cadan finishing in 8th in a time of 2m25.4s in the A string and Eddie finishing in 8th in the B string in a time of 2m42.5s), Aidan Gallagher threw the discus 22.40m to finish 4th in the A string. Cadan then made it back to the discus to get a throw in, finishing 5th with 12.34m.
Zofia’s next event was in the high jump, finishing with a height of 1.15m to finish 10th in the A string. Rowan was then competing with George in the long jump, finishing 6th in the A with 4.34m and 3rd in the B with 3.92m respectively. With a tight timetable of events, Rowan had to leave part way through the long jump for the 200m where he finished 9th in 28.4s in the A string and Nate then competed in the B string to finish 5th in 29.3s. For the girls, Maribelle ran a time of 31.9s to finish 8th.
With the evening drawing to a close, Aidan threw 6.48m in the shot put, finishing 6th in the A string and Grace threw 12.34m in the discus to finish 11th in the A string. The final events of the evening were the relays. The boys’ race saw the team finish in 8th in a time of 56.4s and the girls’ race saw them finish in 10th in a time of 58.8s.
