Match Report – Under 15s match 3

As one evening’s athletics ended, it didn’t feel very long before the U15s third match at the Withdean Stadium was upon us. Again we had a very small squad, but this was a noticeably warmer evening and glorious sunshine was welcomed by all.

Getting our team underway, George was again racing across the 80m hurdles, finishing 4th in the A string in 16.1s with Zofia leaping to  4.14m and 5th in the A string long jump whilst Zara continued from where she’d left off in the last match with another PB, this time 3.88m and 4th in the B string. In the boys’ high jump, Nate reached 1.30m and 7th in the A string.

Focusing on the javelin and avoiding having to race across the track to do the shot put this time enabled Maribelle to throw a new PB in the javelin of 22.13m, over 3m further than she had thrown before.

In the 300m, Eddie came 7th in the A string in a time of 46.8s in a close finish, narrowly beating the athlete from Hastings. In the girls’ event, Angel Ward made her debut for the club. Although only joining recently, she showed few nerves competing and finished in 8th in a time of 49.0s, and followed this up with a time of 30.9s in the B string of the 200m. The A string of the 200m saw Zara equal her personal best, running 30.8s to finish 10th in her race.

In a great competition in the shot put, Grace was narrowly beaten into 2nd place with a throw of 7.06m (the winner got 7.08m), before she then threw a PB in the discus to finish 7th with 13.82m. Maribelle made her debut in the discus, throwing 9.58m to finish 8th in the B string. For the boys, Nate also achieved a new PB in the discus with 14.71m to finish 8th, and Eddie threw 13.50m, achieving 6th in the B string.

There was yet another good competition in the javelin with Eddie improving on his personal best by over 3m as well, finishing in 5th in the A string with a throw of 25.68m. Continuing with a theme of new PBs, Zofia then improved her high jump record to 1.30m to finish 7th in the A string.

The boys’ 100m saw George finishing in 8th in 14.6s. For the girls, Zara finished in 9th in a time of 14.7s and Maribelle ran 15.1s to finish in 8th in the B string on her debut in the girls’ races. Rowan finished in 9th in his 800m in a time of 2m34.2.

Drawing the evening to a close, the boys’ 4x100m relay team came in 9th in a time of 55.9s and the girls’ team also finished in 9th, with a time of 58.7s.

Well done to all our athletes that were competing across these two matches and congratulations on all those new PBs.
